Overview
As an intern at Ford on the Digital Product team, I developed advanced prototypes for ADAS towing features including a new Towing App and Pro Trailer Assist tools. My work combined user experience design with real-time system simulation, allowing stakeholders to interact with highly functional prototypes that mimicked live vehicle conditions.
Process
Prototyping & Custom Components
I built high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, creating custom reusable components to capture complex towing interactions. These prototypes were designed to accurately represent vehicle workflows and provide realistic user flows for testing and feedback sessions.
Simulation & Integration
To extend beyond static UI, I integrated simulated vehicle CAN signals into my prototypes. Using ProtoPie, I imported vehicle data and wrote a custom Python WebSocket script to override default ProtoPie messaging. This allowed me to inject custom CAN signals directly into the interface, updating the UI in real time to simulate live driving scenarios.
Stakeholder Demos
I regularly demoed these interactive prototypes to Ford stakeholders, ensuring alignment with product vision and gathering feedback. The ability to simulate dynamic driving conditions provided a more convincing demonstration of ADAS capabilities, bridging the gap between design and engineering.
Next Steps
Future development could include scaling these prototypes into a fully interactive testing platform, allowing engineers and designers to simulate additional vehicle scenarios and rapidly iterate on ADAS features before integration into production vehicles.
